How to obtain your LGV licence

Procedure For Category C/C1 and D/D1:

  • You will need a medical report form D4 and driving licence application form D2. We can supply these on request
  • Arrange a medical. We can supply you with the contact details of a doctor on request
  • Send your forms to the DVLA
  • Receive your provisional licence
  • Book, attend and pass your theory test, hazard perception test and CPC theory, if required
  • Take an assessment with us, and we’ll advise on the level of training to help you reach the standard to pass
  • Start your course with us, then take your test

Procedure For C + E (Artic)
If you already hold a Category C licence:

  • Take an assessment with us, and we will advise on the level of training to help you reach the standard to pass
  • Arrange a date for your course

Minibus Training D1
If you took your car test after 1997 or need to remove a 101 restriction from your existing licence, this is the procedure for Category D1:

  • Obtain medical form D4 and driving licence application form D2. We can supply these on request
  • Arrange a medical. We can supply you with the contact details of a doctor on request
  • Book, attend and pass your theory test, hazard perception test and CPC theory, if required
  • Take an assessment with us, and we’ll advise on the level of training to help you reach the standard to pass
  • Start your course with us, then take your test

LGV Driving Instructor Course
To become qualified, you will need to pass a three part exam consisting of:

  1. a theory test
  2. a test of your driving ability
  3. a test of your instructional ability

 

  • Before coming to us, please enrol on the DSA Voluntary Register to obtain your official number
  • Then take your LGV instructor theory test before starting your training with us. The course will prepare you for the instructional ability test
  • You will then take your pre-arranged driving test and ability test. You need to pass the driving test before taking the ability test
